PRESS RELEASE
Celebration of 11th International Day of Yoga at Pointe Noire, Republic of Congo
The United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga (IDY) in 2014, following a proposal by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. The first IDY was celebrated in 2015. Rooted in India’s ancient tradition, yoga continues to serve as a holistic path to physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
The 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) was celebrated under the global theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” which highlights the profound interconnectedness between individual well-being and the health of our planet.
The Embassy of India held 11th IYD celebrations in the coastal city of Pointe-Noire on 15 June 2025 at the iconic Jaipur Sea Beach Restaurant. The event brought together around 90 yoga enthusiasts, including representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the Consular Corps, local Congolese citizens, foreign nationals, and the Indian diaspora, reflecting the growing popularity of yoga as a universal practice for health and harmony.
The yoga session was led by Ms. Tuuila Huttunen, a Finnish national and experienced yoga teacher, who guided participants through a rejuvenating sequence of postures, breathing techniques, and mindfulness practices. Her session emphasized the core values of yoga — balance, flexibility, and inner peace — and was warmly received by all in attendance.
The event was marked by high energy, inclusiveness, and a spirit of shared well-being. Local media covered the celebration, further amplifying its message of holistic health and cultural connection.
The Embassy of India expresses its gratitude to all the participants, volunteers, and supporters who contributed to the success of the Yoga Day celebration in Pointe-Noire. The event reaffirmed yoga’s timeless relevance and its growing resonance across communities in the Republic of Congo.
A follow-up celebration is scheduled to be held in Brazzaville on 22 June 2025 at the Memorial Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza, continuing the Embassy’s efforts to promote yoga as a path to physical, mental, and spiritual wellness.
